The secret to keeping your readers engaged is pretty simple.  The age of Twitter and personal blogs has transformed everyone into an author.  With so much out there, how do you get your print to stand out?

These 5 tips are simple to implement and will actually take minutes off your writing.

Know your audience: Write to your audience. If engineers will be reading your article you can be more technical with your writing. If the general public is reading your article, try to be a little funny and use more general terms opposed to jargon.

Keep your writing simple: Impressing people with big words and long sentences stopped working in the 8th grade.  We are all busy.  When we read online, we only skim the content.  Make your article is easy to follow while skimming.

Use good spacing: Make sure to separate your paragraphs with spacing. Also you can use bold lettering or bullets to break up your article. Keep the reader’s eyes interested, otherwise, something else will catch your reader’s attention.

Short sentences: In today’s fast paced world, we think quickly. If you have a run-on sentence, turn it into two. Lots of us communicate via text. We are accustomed to quick, short thoughts.

Use conversational words: Your article should read like a conversation. When you are editing, read aloud. Anything that sounds funny or too stuffy should be changed to sound more conversational.

Writing in smaller sentences with more familiar words should help expedite the writing process, saving you valuable time. These 5 tips will help you create reader friendly articles while saving you time.
